The holiday season is a time when many of us rejoice in the loving warmth of our families. However, for or many foster youth, spending the holidays with their
families is not a possibility. Fortunately, there are loving foster families who've stepped up and are providing foster youth with a loving home environment.
Foster families have not been immune to the budget cuts, layoffs, and downsizing that is characteristic of our current economic climate. However, they are still committed to making the holidays special for their foster youth. In an effort to ease their burden, we are asking congregations to adopt "just 1" foster family for the holidays. To get started, just complete and submit the brief inquiry form below.
1 CONGREGATION ~ 1 FOSTER FAMILY
Adopt a foster family for the holidays

So how does the adopt a foster family for the holidays project work?
Once a representative of your congregation has submitted an inquiry form, an Our Children's Keeper staff person will match the congregation with a foster family and then provide the congregation with the family's profile. The family profile includes various information including size of family, number of children in the home, the first names of the children, gender and age of the children, children's holiday wish/gift list and a brief description of the family unit. The congregation would then decide what items from the wish list(s) that they will purchase for the child or children in the foster home. The congregation purchases 1 or more gifts for each child in the matched foster home. That's it in a nutshell.
If your congregation would like to do more, here are some examples of additional activities to consider:
- Sponsor a holiday outing for the foster family (i.e. ice skating, nutcracker performance, dinning out, etc).
- Provide children with a special holiday outfit.
- Make or purchase stockings or stocking stuffers.
- Bake or purchase holiday sweets for the family.
